The goal is to identify abnormal moles or early signs of skin cancer.
Recommended once a year for both adults and children.
If you notice a new mole, see a change in an existing mole, or experience itching or bleeding, immediate screening is recommended, as early detection of malignant lesions offers a good chance of recovery.
What signs should you look out for at home?
You can also examine moles at home using the "ABCDE" rule:
- Asymmetry: One half of the birthmark does not match the other.
- Borders (edges): The edges of the mole are uneven, blurred, or irregular.
- Color: Presence of multiple colors (brown, black, red, blue).
- Diameter: The mole is larger than 6 mm (the size of a pencil eraser).
- Evolving: The mole changes in size, shape, or color.
